Contrary to what most people think it is neither money or time that holds people back from achieving their goals.

So what are the biggest roadblocks that get in nearly Everyone’s way?

Your Beliefs.  These are the root of ALL the obstacles in your way.

Doubt and Fear are the biggest traps people fall into.  Your beliefs and attitudes are what have gotten you where you are today and will continue to shape your future.  Your choices and decisions have lead you here so logically the only way to affect change is to change your beliefs.

If you don’t believe you can, you can’t, and if you believe you can, you can.  Simple and clear.

All fine and dandy buy HOW exactly do you change then?

For today start with rolling up your sleeves and identifying the nitty gritty that you don’t like in your life.  Be honest and specific, and don’t skip over anything!

Take some time to get this done and we will go through what to do with it next time.

There is a lot of hype in the media over our economy lately.  Gas prices going up and down.  Companies that have been in business a long time suddenly disappear.

Wouldn’t it be significant if you had more control over your income?

This is one of the most attractive aspects of being an Entrepreneur.  You write your own paycheques!  So naturally the next question I’d ask is “are you making what you deserve?”

If you are like many of the people I speak to, they are just short of where they’d like to be financially, and putting in alot of effort trying to get over that invisible hump.

One of my favorite authors, Alan Cohen, has a great book called, “Relax Into Wealth”.  One of his teaching points in his book is if we let external sources influence our attitude then our success is conditional.

Think about it… you hear doom and gloom on the news in the morning and you head into your office looking for new prospects and new business.  If you’ve bought into the ideas presented in the news you may start to wonder who can afford your services, and if anyone has any money left, and what are you going to do about your mortgage payment due next week, and… away your thoughts can go into all those negative messages you received.

Instead keep your eye on your vision, something I often talk about with my dream coaching clients, and elevate your attitude to match your vision.  When you align your thoughts here and focus on your vision and attitude you create positive energy.  Use that energy to create your conditions rather than reacting to them, and your success becomes unconditional!

My last post was about Randy Pausch and his “Last Lecture” and, sadly, since then Randy has passed away.  My thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

Randy has left behind his message of going for your dreams and letting nothing stop you.  So I wonder what you say in the face of adversity?  What happens when life throws you a curve ball?  Do you stomp your feet and indignantly say “Now What??” as in “what else can go wrong?”

If you have found yourself saying anything remotely close to this, the next question I’d ask is how big was the challenge you were facing at that time?  Was it an accumulation of little things that pushed your buttons?  Or was it one big obstacle?  Sometimes we can feel like they come in waves….

When Randy first heard of his having cancer, and the reality of that sunk in… I wonder what he thought? He had a choice, just as we all do, as to his reaction to his challenge.

He chose to rise above and spread his message and leave his legacy for his family.  To me that is a “ok I have cancer” ….. “What Now?” as in what next?  Looking forward for solutions.

Feel the shift?  We can negatively react to things that go on around us, and to us, or we can choose to see over and above those things.  Some things we can’t change in life.  Some we can.  The only thing you have total control over is your response.  “What Now?”  leaves room for options, solutions, and paths you can’t see when bogged down in the woe is me, in the “Now What?!” response.

What will you choose in the face of your next challenge or frustration?

WOW! At the end of your life what do you want to say? “Yes! Been there done that!” or “Man, I wish I would have….” How do you know when that end will come? For some, like Randy Pausch, it may be earlier than you think.

Randy has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, which is one of the most deadly cancers, with a 4% chance of a 5 year survival rate. Randy, from Carnegie Mellon University, is the professor famous for his “Last Lecture” speech. You can watch it here on YouTube.

In Randy’s lecture he speaks about Living Your Childhood Dreams. I was impressed he could even remember them!  Many of us pack them away with our High School yearbooks in boxes in the basement when we step into the ‘real’ world as young adults.

But not Randy. From what I can see he is living a remarkable life because he kept his dreams front and center. Without knowing HOW he was going to accomplish all of his childhood dreams he went to work to experience them all, from winning gigantic stuffed animals at the fair, to experiencing Zero Gravity (or weightlessness) in Nasa’s Vomit Comet!

I highly recommend watching Randy’s Last Lecture. Learn how he dealt with the Cynics in his life… I mean gigantic stuffed animals? You’ve got to watch the video, they even bring some on stage! When he wanted to work with Walt Disney as an Imaingeer he got some of the “… nicest go to hell…” letters he’d ever received. Did that stop him? No! and he got work with them on the Aladdin project! In Randy’s mind ‘brick walls’ are only there to see if you really want it. These obstacles seperate those who ‘do’ from those who ‘don’t', who are you going to be?

In Marcia Wieder’s new book “Dreams, are Whispers from the Soul” on page 26 she includes a great poem about one of the key factors in living a fulfilling life…

Look Inside Your Heart

Thousands of years ago, when God was creating life,he asked the angels,

“Where on earth should I put love? It’s so precious I want to put it somewhere safe.”

The angels thought for awhile and one said,” Put it in the food, surely humans will find it there and cherish it.”

Another angel suggested,” Put it in the ground. Everytime they walk they will feel it.”

A third offered,” Put it in the sky. That way it will be everywhere.”

Finally God said, “I know ~ I’ll put it in their hearts. Right inside of them.

It will be safe there, but it will be the last place they look.”

Today reach within and see what your heart is telling you? Where have you strayed from what is important to you, what you really care about? Or what have you been putting off for the tomorrow that never seems to get here?

Seize the day and open yourself up to following your heart… don’t worry what others may think or say… in the end when we live authentically to ourselves we bless all of those around us, even if we don’t see how, have courage! This is the ‘real’ you…

When I talk about dreams it’s not the ones you have while sleeping, but rather ones you have while wide awake.

Most people think their dreams are unattainable, and part of their childhood fantasies.  I choose to believe that we can actually have what we want.  I think we convince ourselves that our desires are ‘unattainable’ because we don’t see how we can make them happen.

What if you could really have what you want in 2008?  It’s a new year, full of new possibilities.  What if this year you chose to think differently… What if it COULD happen?

I have learnt a simple, but profound method for making your deepest desires part of your actual, current, reality.

The formula is this:

1. Be clear – know what your dream is

2. Remove Obstacles – particularly your limiting beliefs

3. Define the simple steps you need to take to make it happen!

Thats it!  It is really that simple!
